Aniekpeno Udoh’s strike in the 26th minute was enough to help Akwa United FC of Uyo gain passage to the Federation Cup final at the expense of Nasarawa United of Lafia yesterday.
The result of the match decided at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta sets up a final confrontation between the Uyo-based side and two-time champions, Lobi Stars of Makurdi. It is the first time Akwa United, founded 17 years ago will reach the final.
Lobi Stars romped into the final after dispatching five-time champions, Enugu Rangers by a lone goal at the Karkanda Stadium in Katsina.
In the Women’s Federation Cup, Bayelsa Queens and Sunshine Queens will contest the final, after the girls from Yenagoa prevailed by a lone goal over Confluence Queens of Lokoja – conquerors of Cup holders Rivers Angels in the quarter -finals. That match was played in Oleh.
In Enugu, Sunshine Queens and Nasarawa Amazons battled to a scoreless draw in regulation time, and the Queens edged the penalty shoot –out 3-2.
