No less than 10 persons have been reportedly killed in a market at Wagir, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, after a female suicide bomber detonated an explosive device in a crowded place.
A driver who conveyed the injured to Sani Abatcha Hospital, Damaturu, Malam Usaini Jibril told newsmen that he counted 10 bodies on the spot and over 30 injured.
“The girl that detonated the bomb was a very small girl of about 12 years. We counted 10 dead and over 30 injured,” he said.
According to him, the bomber hit the market at about 11am at the Kasuwar Buhunna, when the market was at its peak.
The Yobe attack is coming a day after two female suicide bombers killed at least 30 people and injuring 66 others in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
The first blast occurred in a mosque and killed at least 30 people, according to eyewitnesses, while the second blast occurred at Baga market area of Maiduguri at about 4pm, killing scores of people and injuring many others.
Meanwhile, Muslim students have begged Boko Haram to sheath their swords and embrace peace.
The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, MSSN, condemned the suicide attack on law-abiding people in Maiduguri, describing the act as inhuman and barbaric.
President of the society, northern region, Malam Yusuf Arrigasiyyu, who made the condemnation in Kaduna yesterday, said those behind the attack must sheath their swords and embrace peace.
He expressed confidence that the security forces would route out the insurgents, and called on Nigerians to support them with relevant information to ensure the success of the war on terror.
He said that the recent suicide attacks by Boko Haram insurgents in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa were indications of desperation on the part of the terrorists, having been completely dislodged from their stronghold.
Arrigassiyu, therefore, urged Nigerians not to relent in prayers for an end to the “senseless killings by the insurgents.”
