…..impersonated Dr. Daniel says event has traumatized him
The Ministry of Health has distanced itself from the employment the of Martins Ugwu, the fake doctor who impersonated Dr. George Davidson Daniel as a doctor for nine years in the ministry.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr. Linus Awute told newsmen yesterday in Abuja at a press briefing on the impersonation of Dr. George Davidson Daniel by Mr. Martins Ugwu who is still in polic custody.
Awute said that Ugwu was recruited through the Federal Civil service Commission and he was deployed to the ministry as a medical doctor.
It is important to place it on record that the Federal Ministry of Health does not employ any of its staff directly, but are recruited through the Federal Civil Service Commission who has the statutory powers to do so. The Federal Civil Service Commission therefore deploys such employed civil servant to any MDA according to their discipline and relevance, he said.
‘’Martins Ugwu Okpe was offered appointment by the Commission on 30th August, 2006 and was posted to the Federal Ministry of Health in September same year.’’
Speaking on how it started, he said that Martins Ugwu Okpe a native of Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State got himself employed fraudulently using the stolen document of his friend Dr. George Davidson Daniel to get employment through the Federal Civil Service Commission.
The Ministry is currently computing all salaries and allowances which accrued to Mr. Ugwu during his mischievous sojourn in the Ministry, for full retrieval by the relevant Law enforcement Agencies, Awute said.
The real Dr. George Daniel who was physically presented to journalists at the press briefing expressed fears over his life and said, ‘’though I am a reserved person, this event has distracted me from my residency programme and traumatized me’’, adding that after his programmed which would be completed in two years he would get on in life.
