Former acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Uche Secondus, has lambasted the Federal Government’s lack of clear-cut economic policy that is capable of rescuing the country from the present harsh recession.
Secondus, who said he was piqued by the palpable unemployment and economic hardship faced by Nigerians, claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government has neither the vision nor the capacity to formulate and implement shrewd economic policies that would revive and reposition the economy.
Speaking shortly after presenting an address at a programme organised by the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, with the theme “SHIFT for Greater Height/Talent Hunt for Leadership” at the Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre in Yenagoa, Secondus alleged that the nation’s current economic woes were product of failure and weak institutions.
He said this usually occurred where a leader is unable to provide a workable economic blueprint, stressing that its multiplier effects is a collapsed economy, hardship, poverty and starvation.
The PDP Chieftain said this month (May) marks one year of President Buhari’s government yet he has not been able to provide a clear economic agenda for Nigerians, adding that widespread hunger was lot of the citizenry.
“President Buhari has not come up with a clear cut economic agenda in the last one year. He took over on May 29, 2015 exactly one year ago, yet there is no clear economic agenda and the people are suffering, there is hunger in the land.”
Therefore, he challenged Buhari and his political party, the All Progressive Congress, APC, to redeem their Change Mantra slogan noting that it has left Nigerians in a worse and deplorable condition than they met.
He challenged the Buhari-led federal government to present an agenda if he has any, and lamented that under the APC government, the Nigerian workforce has been subjected to poor working condition, lack of adequate welfare and unpaid salaries.
On the church programme, he said it was meant to raise new breed of Nigerians that would imbibe the spirit of biblical Daniel who stood for his conviction, would not eat the king’s meat, worship God with integrity and was rewarded.
He said the nation needs only persons that possess the qualities of biblical Daniel to lead Nigeria out of economic recession, stressing that such selfless leaders would serve the people freely without any compromise.
The PDP chieftain reiterated the need for leadership programmes necessary to fill the void of selfless leaders in Nigeria, stressing poor leadership and absence of God fearing leaders remain the bane of good governance in Nigeria.
