As a way of educating Nigerians on Viral Hemorrhagic Fever, VHF, the Ministry of Health has commissioned a website for on-line Training and Awareness Campaign, OTRAC, on the disease in the country.
The website which was developed by a youth Corp member, Mrs. Farida Mohammed Kabir, a graduate of Zoology from ABU, Zaria, serving with Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, is a platform for education on the symptoms and treatment of VHF and other viral diseases.
This was contained in a press release issued by the Ministry’s Press and Public Relations Unit.
The Permanent Secretary, Mr. Linus Awute, while commissioning the website in Abuja stated that it would add value to the health sector by providing a platform for public sensitization and mobilization for disease prevention and control in the country.
Awute, in a press statement, noted that the website would also serve the purpose of training and sensitisation of medical doctors and other health personnel.
He said, ‘’be informed that doctors and indeed all health workers targeted for training will be mobilised to subscribe to this platform.’’
Mr. Awute commended the corps member’s effort and described it as a great innovation which represents a milestone in the Ministry’s containment effort of not only Ebola but other viral diseases.
Speaking earlier, the CEO/National Coordinator, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, Professor Abdulsalami Nasidi commended Mrs. Kabir for her ingenuity to develop a soft-ware that has shocked many, within her short time of service in the organization, adding that the soft ware had been endorsed for use as NCDC’s tracking project.
Director General, NYSC, Brigadier General, Johnson Olawumi, who was represented by Mr. Samson Ateli at the occasion said that Kabir’s effort was in line with NYSC development initiative launched in 2014.
He appreciated FMOH for her continuous support for the scheme and training of corps members last year in all the 36 states in the country.
In her response, Mrs. Kabir said that she was motivated by the desire to disseminate information on VHF and similar diseases because of the scare and misery Ebola scourge brought on the country.
