Federal government yesterday intervened in what would have been a major industrial crisis by Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, over Nigeria Ports Authority’s inability to pay wage arrears to Tally Clerks and on Board Security Gangway men.
To seal the intervention effort, the government said that it had invited all the parties for a meeting scheduled to hold tomorrow at the ministry’s conference room in Abuja.
A statement released in Abuja yesterday by the deputy director of Press in the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity, Mr. Samuel Olowokere, noted that the intervention was in line with sections 4 and 5 of Trade Dispute Act T.8 and T.9 laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004.
The government through the statement by the Ministry of Labour and Productivity asked the parties to acknowledge the effort of the government in maintaining industrial peace in the sector, thus urging all parties to maintain status quo and allow the dispute resolution process to be concluded amicably.
