Federal government has pledged to ensure total compliance with the existing building regulations with the hope of achieving a sustained development of towns and cities.
To achieve this through the housing ministry, the federal government said it will host stakeholders and participants in the building industry at the fifth National Council on Lands, Housing and Urban Development in Kwara State.
The Assistant Director, Press, Mrs. Eno Olotu, said the gathering is between Monday, August 22-25.
She hinted that the focus would be “Building Adequate Capacity of Professionals, Artisans and Tradesmen in the Building Environment”, adding that the theme is apt.
The programme will ensure that professionals across all levels address challenges in the sector.
She stated that this year’s national council is driven by the robust conviction and relentless zeal of the present administration to deploy available resources into the infrastructural sector of the economy.
This is a drive, she said, to place Nigeria on the path of continuous growth, poverty reduction, job creation and sustainable development among others.
Memoranda on relevant areas that would form the nucleus of plenary deliberations include effective and efficient land administration, finance, adequate and affordable housing delivery, urban development and others.
She reiterated that the event serves as an inter-governmental platform for the co-ordination and evaluation of policies and programmes in line with government’s drive for an inclusive and equitable society.
“Participants are expected to exchange views, interact, strategise and network on pertinent issues in order to come up with a common position for a productive outcome.
“Commissioners of Lands, Housing and Urban Development in the 36 States of the Federation and the FCT, stakeholders in the industry, general managers of housing corporations, including surveyors-general of states and professional/regulatory agencies will attend the meeting.
The event is hosted by the Housing Minister, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, with special guest of honour being the Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed.
