Federal Government said this year’s annual verification exercise for ex-servicemen would hold from October 6 to 20.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Aliyu Ismaila gave the date in Abuja yesterday at a military pension stakeholders interactive session organised by the Military Pensions Board.
Ismaila, represented by the director of Joint Services Department, David Gende, said the essence of the exercise was to aid the board to determine the number of eligible military pensioners.
He noted that the verification exercise, which was supposed to be an annual exercise, had not been conducted for the past three years, even as he decried the communication gap that exists between pensioners and the pension administration that caused complaints and agitations by pensioners.
Ismaila revealed that the present administration had taken measures to respond to series of agitations, and that the recent commencement of 33 percent quarterly payment of pension arrears was one of such efforts demonstrated by the government in solving retirees’ welfare needs.
