Federal government has ordered the immediate stop to the funding of staff schools in all the Ministries, Department and Agencies, MDAs in its hard resolve to reduce the cost of running government.
The directive was contained in a circular with the reference No. SWC/S/04/S446/12/85 released by the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission, NSIWC, and addressed to the executive, legislative and judiciary arms of government titled, Funding of Staff Schools Established by Federal Government Institutions.
Addressing newsmen in Abuja yesterday, the Director, Information and Public Relations, National Universities Commission, NUC, Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Yakasai, who represented the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Professor Julius Okojie, said the directive was received by the NUC for immediate conveyance to all federal universities.
However, the NUC, in a quick reaction to and in an attempt to exonerate itself from the allegation, said SSANU has simply embarked on campaign of calumny, as it is aware of the circular coming directly from the NSIWC.
“SSANU itself in a letter signed by its president and secretary general dated May 28, 2015 addressed to the then Minister of Education had a copy of the circular from the NSIWC attached, copies were sent to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman of NSIWC”, Yakasai said.
Yakasai advised the protesting union to direct their grievances to NSIWC as stated in the said circular, adding that the NSIWC was in a position to help them
He advised them against attacking the NUC.
