Director-General of Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate, PTAD, Mrs. Nellie Mayshak has disclosed that the federal government is poised to fish out and eliminate ghost pensioners in the nation’s pension system.
Mayshak disclosed this through a press statement issued to newsmen in Owerri yesterday during the verification of some federal establishments in Imo State.
She stated that the three day nationwide verification exercise for Prisons, Customs and Immigration Service retirees would eliminate ghost pensioners and create solid database for pensioners in the affected agencies.
The PTAD DG noted that the verification exercise would equally address some anomalies, such as over payment and under payment of pensioners even as harmonization of data would be made easier than before.
According to her, “After the verification, a credible and authentic database will be created for all pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS), where records of Next of Kin of such pensioners will be updated.”
While advising that all sick pensioners to contact the designated telephone numbers or upload their credentials to PTAD via email for verification, she said that beneficiaries of the exercise are pensioners who did not transit to the Contributory Pension Scheme, CPS.
