Federal Government has reiterated its support for local pharmaceutical manufactures as a way of building businesses, creating jobs and conserving the nation’s foreign reserve.
In a press release sent to Nigerian Pilot Saturday, Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, gave this commitment when members of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Group of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, PMG-MAN, led by their Chairman, Pharm Okey Akpa, visited him and the group to give quality a priority.
The Minister assured that the government would strengthen its oversight functions to ensure that standards are maintained in order to protect the health of Nigerians. “While we support you to grow your business, we will not compromise the health of Nigerians’’ he said.
He also urged the PMG, MAN to key into government’s agenda for the health sector, adding that all stakeholders in the sector must share a collective focus to deliver health care to Nigerians.
Earlier, the PMG-MAN, Chairman, Pharm Okey Akpa, assured the Minister of the association’s full support and cooperation on delivering accessible, affordable and qualitative health care for every Nigerian, but appealed to the Minister to urgently look into problems like creating special status for pharmaceutical manufacturing industries.
