Two separate fire incidents yesterday consumed a shopping mall at Lagos Island on Broad Street and section of Skye bank building.
Nigerian Pilot gathered that textile materials and fashion accessories estimated at millions of Naira were burnt at the shopping plaza, while the Skye bank fire gutted some property.
The Lagos Island fire started around 8.55am after a power surge, while that of the bank broke out at the server room of the bank and caught fire around 10.50am.
Efforts by the plaza workers to quell the fire proved abortive before officials of the Lagos State Fire Service and men of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, came to their aid, as some traders watched helplessly as their goods burnt, while others struggled to salvage their wares, as the firefighters battled the flames.
General Manager of LASEMA, Michael Bamidele confirmed that there were no casualties in the incidents, and that some traders were able to save their wares.
Prompt response of firemen from the Ikeja fire station was said to have prevented the fire from escalating in the bank building.
