Controller General, Federal Fire Service, Anebi Joseph Garba has noted non-unification in the service as the backdrop for poor service delivery in the country.
According to the statement signed by the service Public Relations Officer, AC Elechi Collins, and made available to Nigerian Pilot Saturday yesterday in Abuja.
He disclosed this on Wednesday when he led participants of the on-going National Council on Fire meeting holding in Minna, Niger State to the palace of Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Yahaya CFR.
While at the palace to pay homage to the custodian of the people’s culture and tradition, Garba told the Emir that the Fire Service is being administered separately which does not enhance synergy, efficient and effective service delivery to the citizenry.
He went ahead to explain that stated that other sister organisations are administered uniformly and therefore called for the unification of the entire Fire Services in the country.
Responding, the Emir elated by the visit stated that the Fire Service is very significant to be neglected considering its mandate to save lives and property which in the process some of these firefighters lose their lives in the course of carrying out their assigned duties amidst plenty of risks and hazard.
The Emir praised the firefighters for their determination to forge ahead to deliver on their mandate irrespective of several challenges such as inadequate equipment, facilities, trained manpower, poor welfare thus pledged his support for the unification of the Fire Services in the country to enhance service delivery in all departments of the organization.
He further requested the council to make available to his palace a copy of the summary of the resolutions at the end of the conference.
