Ogun State government said it has recorded the first case of the dreaded case of lassa fever in the state.

The State Commissioner for health, Babtunde Ipaye while addressing a press conference yesterday at the Governor’s office press center in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital said confirmatory test has shown a case of  a 28 year old lady.

The government further explained that while the victim has been isolated at the center at Ogun State University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu, other 60 primary contacts have been listed.

The Commissioner explained that the lady attended a burial ceremony in Ebonyi State in January before travelling back to Ogun State.

According to the Commissioner, the lady started showing symptoms of fever and reported herself at a private hospital in Ota before she was later referred to another private hospital where she was later confirmed to be a patient.

Ipaye explained that the two hospitals have been temporarily closed down while they are being decontaminated.
