Bruce Arena is expected to return as the United States national team manager following the sacking of Jurgen Klinsmann, according to USA Today.

Arena is currently manager of LA Galaxy but was USA manager between 1998 and 2006.

Klinsmann was sacked on Tuesday with the team on zero points and bottom of their six-country World Cup qualifying group, below the likes of Panama and Honduras, albeit only a fifth of the way through the qualifying process.

The German took the US to the last 16 at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil but lost 2-1 at home to Mexico and 4-0 away to Costa Rica in their opening two qualifying matches for the 2018 tournament.
