Ogun State government has allocated about 120,000 hectares of land to Larfage Africa at the state forest reserved area, for a special forest project that will create more jobs for the youths in the state.
The Director of Non Timber products in the state Ministry of Forestry, Mr. Dolapo Odulana disclosed this while speaking with the press men in his office at Oke Monsanto, Abeokuta yesterday.
Governor Ibikunle Amosun was in Paris, France last week where he signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the company with the aim of developing the forests reserves in the state.
Odulana explained that the project would become reality following the MoU which according to him was basically for the development of the forest reserves.
He disclosed that the project was located at Aworo forest reserves in Ayetoro in Yewa North local government area and Imeko forest reserve at Imeko Afon Local Government, covering about 120,000 hectares of land.
Odulana highlighted the value chain of benefits attached to the project which include but not limited to the service to the communities, preservation of the environment, enhanced trade activities and most importantly Job Creation.
He said the influx of people from other zones was expected due to the manpower required for the management of the project, saying that more Youths from the immediate Communities would be employed.
‘’We are taking about a project of about 120,000 hectares of Land, lots of people are going to be engaged within and outside the affected Communities.
“We are eve envisaging the influx of people from other zones of the State, as the immediate Communities where the project is sited may not be able to supply the needed manpower required to manage the project,’’ He said.
He commended the efforts of the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun for his vision towards the maintenance and sustenance of the State Forest reserves.
He appealed for concerted efforts from all Stakeholders in the project to ensure success, assuring the affected Communities of no negative impact from the project.
He also urged members of the immediate communities to cooperate with Government so as to tap from the financial emancipation.
