For security reasons, especially during the forthcoming Christmas and Yuletide seasons, Osun State government has prohibited the sales and burning of fireworks and other explosive devices throughout the state.
The prohibition order was contained in a statement signed on behalf of the state government by the special adviser to the governor on security matters, Mr Tope Adejumo, yesterday, and made available to Nigerian Pilot Sunday in Osogbo, the state capital.
According to the special adviser, he explained that the prohibition order became imperative in order to protect lives and property mainly because of the harmattan/dry season which can aid the destructive burning of property.
Adejumon, in the statement, further enjoined parents and guardians to warn their wards by complying with the order while religion leaders should also assist government in disseminating the information to their congregations in their various Churches, Mosques and Temples.
He then pointed out that all security agencies have been put on alert to deal decisively with any person or groups caught violating the prohibition order.
