BOARD of Trustees, BoT of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP yesterday warned against any attempt by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC to remove the Deputy Senate President, DSP, Senator Ike Ekweremadu over his ongoing forgery trial case along with the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and two others. Chairman of the board, Ambassador Walid Jibrin, who gave the warning when he led other members on a solidarity visit to Ekweremadu at the National Assembly in Abuja, said the image built over the years by the DSP should not be tarnished by any individual, group or party. The principal officers, former Clerk to National Assembly, Salisu Maikasuwa and Clerk to the Senate, Ben Efeturi, are presently being tried at a Federal High Court in Abuja for allegedly forging the 2015 Senate standing Rules. Jibrin said, “We are not here to pre-empt the decision of any court, but we are here for justice. We don’t want the deputy senate president framed up for any political reason over the forgery allegation. “Forty-eight senators of PDP with the support of some APC senators elected him as the deputy senate president, which is a good development for the nation’s democracy and for effective legislation for the country. “No attempt should be made by anyone to drag Ekweremadu into the forgery saga and should therefore be left alone. Any attempt to remove him will not augur well with democracy”. According to him, they were at the National Assembly to give support to the embattled deputy senate president, whom he described as a man of honour and exemplary character worthy of emulation. Speaking on the leadership crisis rocking the opposition party, Jibrin stated that the organs of the party are working hard to resolve the crisis, adding that the party would overcome the crisis. While, urging the party members to remain calm, he called on those that instituted cases against the party to withdraw them in line with the constitution of the part. He however, boasted that the party despite its challenges which according to him is momentary, will win all elections, especially the forth coming Edo gubernatorial election.
