Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai yesterday said it had concluded all arrangements to commence the free education, feeding and uniform for pupils of government primary and junior secondary schools in the state by September this year.
This was as he said no parents should pay a dime as school fees from September in public schools across the state.
Speaking while addressing people of the state at 2nd town hall meeting held in Zaria at the Zone 1 area of the state, El-Rufai said the parents should report any headmaster who confronts or charges them for any fee.
The Governor also opened up on why his administration stopped the sponsorship of pilgrimage in the state, saying the poor who the government programme aimed at benefiting don’t get slots; instead the rich benefit more.
“From September, your children will attend schools for 9 years free or charge. We intend to provide uniform, feedings in our primary and junior schools in the state. There will also be no more PTA fees in our schools.
In the area of employment generation, Governor El-Rufai noted that the government cannot employ everyone, assuring however that 10 youths from each of the 255 wards in the state will be employed before the end of the year.
He said same will be repeated every year, believing that, such will touch the lives of other people.
On the recent verification exercise from which he said, N120m has been realised due to blockage of salaries being paid to ghosts workers, El-Rufai said the second phase of the verification is the pipeline, where he said police will be on the ground to make on the spot arrest of job fraudsters.
El-Rufai also told the gathering that during his campaign he promised to end killings in Birnin Gwari and Southern Kaduna.
“We promised during our campaign to end insecurity in the state, we promised to end attacks in southern kaduna, we also promised to end caw rustling in Birnin Gwari because just few days ago we were able to recover about 2000 cows in the area,” he said
He said his administration has also intend to provide 77 police vans to the state police command to be distributed to all divisional offices in the state.
