Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Ondo State has said it
has commenced the installation of speed limiters for vehicles in the state.
In an interview in Akure the state capital, the Chief Route Commander, CRC, Aide Okongheai said the consultant handling the project was working in conjunction with the Ondo FRSC to facilitate the purchase and the installation.
The device and its installation, according to Okonghaei, would cost N45, 000, explaining that the device is to regulate the speed of vehicles.
He added that the device was introduced in the country to curb loss of lives through over- speeding on the roads.
The Chief Route Commander noted that the device will bring down excessive speeding on the roads, saying the speed device has been introduced by the Road Safety through the Standard Organization of Nigeria, SON.
According to him, once the device is placed in the vehicle, the speed will not go beyond the limit and the killing on the road through accident will be reduced drastically.
He further explained that the device is available and will be sold by the consultant.
He stressed that the Commission will ensure that people are safe on the road by using the speed limiting device, while saying there is penalty for motorists that do not have the device after the full implementation of the system.
Okonghael noted that the installation will be done by the dealer and when doing this, the driver will not be there to know where the device will be installed in order not to tamper with the device.
