Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Bayelsa State Command, yesterday mandated road users, particularly commercial vehicle owners, to install speed limiting device on their vehicles to reduce road crashes by 20 percent.
Sector Commander of the corps, Mr. Vincent Jack gave the directive during the annual Road Transport Safety Stabilisation Scheme on Saturday in Yenagoa.
During the event, the sector commander presented certificates of acknowledgement to different fleet operators in the state, stating that the directive was part of the measures to guard against road crashes on the state highways.
The sector commander said, “We are by this forum asking all road users in the state, particularly the commercial vehicle owners to install speed limit device on their vehicles. The installation is necessary in order to help monitor speed and also guard against road crashes.”
He commended a section of the commercial transport operators for successfully maintaining the minimum safety assessment carried out by the FRSC.
Speaking further, he said the scheme, RTSSS, was initiated basically to ensure that all fleet operators in Nigeria were duly registered and certified to operate after satisfying the required standards of the FRSC.
He also warned against reckless driving, saying that the corps would mete out appropriate sanctions on errant drivers.
Among the recipients of the certificates were King Koko Transport Company, NDDC Mass Transit and Haa Izon Transport Company.
