A Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, mobile court in Awka, Anambra state had convicted one Mr. Augustine Okeke for offering bribe to personnel of the Corps in the state.
The State Sector Commander, Mr. Sunday Ajayi told newsmen in Awka yesterday that Okeke who was guilty of traffic offense tried to induce his men with an undisclosed sum of money before he was arrested.
Ajayi said the culprit had been tried by the mobile court in Awka, found guilty of the offense and had been punished according to the provisions of the road safety laws.
He said a total of 51 arrested motorists including two Okada operators were tried and 45 of them convicted while six were discharged and given clean bill.
The commander said the charges against the arraigned motorists ranged from speed violation, overloading, lack of spare tyres and non use of seat belt.
He however said the motorcyclists were also tried for not using helmet and plying the highways.
“We have concluded a mobile court exercise in line with our road safety functions, 51 motorists were tried and 45 persons were convicted while six were discharged and acquitted.
“The FRSC want to reiterate that we are into serious business in this traffic safety measure and not interested in bribe, it is an offence and anyone who indulges in it stands the risk of fine, imprisonment or both.
“We will continue to do our best and we want road users to cooperate with us so that our roads will be safe,” he said.
