tanker-fire Barely four days after the Iyana-Ipaja petrol tanker explosion, another tanker fully loaded with Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, yesterday destroyed multi-million naira worth of Property at Idimu a suburb of Lagos.
The explosion which occurred at about 12:00am burnt 34 houses and 70 shops when a speeding petrol tanker with registration no KJA 54 XA crashed and spilled its content at Idimu bus stop.
A witness told Nigerian Pilot Sunday that the driver of the petrol tanker fully loaded with fuel was speeding before it crashed and the content spilled to a stand where beans cake is being fried which resulted in the explosion which affected the houses nearby.
According to National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, South-West spokesperson, Ibrahim Farinloye, the explosion started at 12:00 am and NEMA received alert at 12:18 with the joint efforts of NEMA, LASEMA, Federal and state fire Service they were able to curtail the fire and also saved a petrol station from the inferno.
He said that about 34 houses and 70 shops and a tricycle were affected with no casualty from the explosion.
Meanwhile, Lagos state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has commiserated with residents of Idimu, Lagos over the loss of property.
Ambode, who visited the scene of the disaster in company of the deputy governor, Dr. Oluranti Adebule, promised to provide immediate relief for the victims.
He said there would be a meeting with the state chapter of the National Union of Petroleum and Gas Workers (Petroleum Tanker Drivers) and other stakeholders today.
