Emir of Ilorin and Chairman, Kwara State Traditional Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has urged Nigerians to ensure that peace and tranquility continue to reign in the nation through harmonious working relationship and honesty.
He added that this has become necessary due to the infiltration of attitudes that are alien to the practice and tradition of the people of Kwara State, especially indigenes of Ilorin by unknown persons.
The monarch stated this yesterday when he received members of Balogun Gambari Community who paid him a thank you visit over the elevation of the Balogun Gambari of Ilorin, Alhaji Adedayo Balogun, as the most senior chancellor at the Ilorin Emirate Council.
He added that it is untrue that Fulani herdsmen are responsible for the destruction of lives and property in some parts of the country, stressing that Fulanis are peaceful, lovable and honest in their dealings with other tribes.
Alhaji Sulu-Gambari, however, urged individuals to desist from embarking on controversial matters that are capable of causing disharmony in the country. “In fact, Fulani herdsmen are not criminals and should not be impersonated by other tribes or groups,” he added.
Similarly, the emir also received the leadership of the Ilorin Emirate Development Association led by its National President and Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Abdullahi Babatunde Salaudeen and Mallam Uthman Jagunmo respectively as part of preparations toward the forthcoming Eid-el- Kabir Sallah celebration.
The group expressed dissatisfaction over the unfortunate incident of stone throwing and sachet water pelting on some personalities by hoodlums at the Ilorin Central Yidi praying ground in the past, stressing that such attitude is alien to Ilorin’s tradition.
They however assured the monarch of their readiness to curb such dastardly acts, adding that sensitisation and advocacy moves have begun across the state, especially in Ilorin Emirate ahead of the Sallah celebration.
In his reaction, Sulu-Gambari thanked the group for their foresight and genuine interest in the peaceful co-existence of the people of Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State at large.
