Chairman, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, Alhaji Mafindi Umar Danburam has said the Taraba State acting governor, Alhaji Sani Abubakar Danladi was not interested in the peace of the state.
Answering questions from newsmen in Jalingo yesterday, Danburam who said since Danladi took over from the former acting governor, Garba Umar, he had been flexible about bringing the warring parties together to negotiate peace.
The primary responsibility of any government, according to him, is the protection of lives and property, but instead of bringing leaders of the warring parties to negotiation table, the government has remained adamant on the situation leaving people to their fate.
The chairman, who believed that the implementation of the recommendations of the Northern Governors Forum was key to ending crisis, also called on the incoming government of Darius Ishaku to change strategy in ending the crisis, insisting that a situation where security men stand on the road extorting money from motorists without going into the bush where people are being killed on a daily basis would not solve the problem.
He emphasised that “both Tiv and Fulani incurred losses during the crisis. Government should at least do something to alleviate their sufferings. We are not demanding for compensation, but a situation where someone lost property and nothing is done about it and you are telling the person to calm done will not be possible,” he said.
