Ali Mohammed, suspected killer of the General Mohammed Shuwa, first Officer Commanding, GOC, 1 Division, Nigerian Army, was a preacher for the Boko Haram late leader, Mohammed Yusuf, in Baga, Borno State.
Ali Mohammed (aka Amir), 25, was also reported to have led his followers to reinforce Boko Haram fighters during a battle with security in 2009.
Parading the suspect at the Brigade Headquarters in Kano, Brigade commander, Brig-Gen Hamisu Hassan said the arrest of two suspected killers followed sustained intelligence operation.
The army on Monday, May 2, confirmed the arrest of suspected killers of the General who was shot dead in Maiduguri on November 2, 2012.
According to the acting director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman, officials of the military intelligence arrested the suspects after tracking them down in Kano.
“They were being followed from Maiduguri, two suspected Boko Haram killers of General Shuwa. The suspected Boko Haram kingpins were picked up in Hotoro quarters of Kano metropolis.
“Ali Mohammed (aka Amir) was a preacher for the late Mohammed Yusuf’s sect in Baga, Borno State, and was reported to have led his followers to reinforce Boko Haram fighters during their battle with security agencies that led to the defeat of their leader, Mohammed Yusuf in 2009.”
However, looking calm and steady, the suspect who spoke in Hausa said, “I don’t know anything about General Shuwa’s death.
“I was arrested from my home to the detention centre and they are trying to frame me. I must make myself clear, I have no hand in General Shuwa’s death”, he concluded.
