UEFA general secretary, Gianni Infantino have been elected new FIFA president to replace Sepp Blatter. Gianni Infantino beat his closest contender Sheikh Salman, two others to during the Friday presidential election. After winning narrowly in first round Infantino triumphed in second round of voting.

With his election, Gianni Infantino of Switzerland will be FIFA president until 2019.

Gianni Infantino, in acceptance speech, says FIFA now entering ‘new era’ and ‘we will restore the image of FIFA’.

US Soccer President Sunil Gulati was the first comment on Infantino’s victory and he had this to say, ‘Congratulations to Gianni Infantino on being elected FIFA President. We look forward to working together to embrace reform and good governance’.
