…as MTN confirms dropping him, Sean Tizzle, Timaya
Telecom giant, Globacom is yet to confirm the N120 million worthy deal allegedly signed by Pop singer, Wizkid.
A top official of the telecom company simply said, “I’m not aware of any deal like that. But when we know, we’ll push out a statement, and let you know.”
On whether Glo is planning to sign new brand ambassadors soon, he said, “I can’t say for now”. But you know at the end of the year, we can review our brand ambassador list.”
Meanwhile, MTN has confirmed that indeed, Wizkid and two others, Sean Tizzle and Timaya have been dropped from their brand ambassador list.
A statement signed by MTN’s General Manager, Consumer Marketing, Richard Iweanoge confirmed that the stars won’t be ambassadors of the telecom company this year.
“Although there is a finite number of brand ambassadors we can have at any point in time, Nigerian artistes can continue to monetise their intellectual works through our distribution channels such as the Caller Tunez and Music Plus platforms,” the statement stated.
The statement reads further, “As was originally conceptualised, the ambassadorship will continually evolve to accommodate new talents and cater for diverse segments. This year, we are using a segmented approach and there will be ambassadors for each segment of our market. Using this criteria, new artistes like Cobhams Asuquo will be coming on board the MTN ambassadorial family. In May 2015, stars including Davido, Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage, Dr. Sid, Sound Sultan, Iyanya, Chidinma, Banky W, KCee as well as Hafiz Oyetoro (Saka), Nkem Owoh (Osuofia), Mama Gee and others all renewed their contracts with MTN.”
However, of all the three artistes, only the “Loke Loke” crooner, Sean Tizzle has reacted to the development saying, “It’s a contract; they didn’t drop me, I was like yo, I don’t want to do it again not because anything happened or they dropped me. And if truly somebody dropped somebody, it’s only a matter of time; we’ll know who dropped who.”
When asked if he was really signed in the first place, he said, “I was signed as an ambassador for a year, that’s what we signed and when the contract elapsed I chose not to resign.
On his decision not to renew the endorsement deal, the singer said, “It was huge being an ambassador but I just felt like I don’t want to resign. I want to go to a higher place, not because I be ‘Ashawo’ but it’s what I feel like. At the end of the day its business and I’m a brand, I believe there are 1001 companies looking for Sean Tizzle.”
