The General Officer  Commanding, GOC , 3rd Armoured Division, Major General Hassan Umaru, yesterday, decorated 13 newly promoted military officers at the Officers Messr in  Jos .
The event, which was witnessed by officials of the Plateau state government, family members of the newly promoted as well as the Commander  of the Operation Safe Haven, OPSH, Major General Tabugbo Ude, in celebration of the new officers. Speaking at the occasion, the GOC tasked the promoted officers not to betray the trust bestowed on them by the Nigerian Army and added, “This division of the Nigeria Army has been blessed with various promotions this year and the promotion was gender sensitive.”
He called on citizens of the country to continue to support our troops in the North East stressing that they are working hard to ensure the eventual end of insurgency in the country.
General Umaru also commissioned a security outpost at the main gate of the Division calling on solders to be vigilant at all times.
Also, the Plateau state governor, Simon Lalong, assured that the government would continue to identify with the military to bring about lasting peace in the state and the country at large.
“Our nation must continue to appreciate the sacrifices of the officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces for their tireless efforts to keep the nation free of insurgency urging that their support for peace operations would further ginger the troops to conquer and restore peace to troubled areas in North-East.
“For us in the Plateau State, we are proud of the success you have achieved in the many conflicts that you have helped us to quell in the state. In spite of the odds confronting the cantonment, we are proud of men of the division for protecting the territorial integrity of this nation as well as your unrelenting efforts in confronting the Boko Haram insurgency in check.
Deputy speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon Yusuf Gadgdi, also praised the men and officers of the Nigerian Army on the current fight against insurgency stressing that the Assembly is committed to ensuring that lasting peace is restored to the state.
He called on the promoted officers to guard the promotion jealously, knowing that to whom much is given much is expected.
