General Officer Commanding, GOC 3rd Armoured Division Rukuba, Jos, Major General Hassan Umar, yesterday donated food items to the Plateau State Orphanage Home and Rehabilitation Centre in Jos even as he urged citizens to tolerate and learn to live in peace with one another.
Represented by the Garrison Commander of the division, Brigadier General Benson Akinroluyo, said the alarming rate of poverty in our society plus untoward happenings, health challenges as well as incidences like orphanage and called for passionate concern by the relevant governments’ authorities, corporate organisations and well meaning individuals.
“In Our country, the less privileged including orphans abound… and providence has put us in positions of responsibility to care for them.
“A society that neglects this responsibility will only put itself in a difficult situation especially if orphans turn out to be social perverts to disturb its peace,” he said adding that it was based on this that the division decided to give succour to the needy.
Speaking on behalf of the state, government, Bitrus Gozia, a staff of the orphanage thanked the GOC for his gift and promised that it would be properly utilised.
However, he lamented the rise in disability cases in the state and attributed same to communal and other crises like bomb blasts that are now a regular occurrence in the state.
Items presented to the orphanage includes, bags of rice, clothing, blankets, detergents, buckets and other items.
