Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Timi Frank, said the recent interview granted some dailies by the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie Oyegun, has confirmed his (Frank) earlier position that the party is enmeshed in deep crisis.
It would be recalled that Oyegun, in a recent interview, was quoted to have said that the party would not intervene to find a political solution to the travails of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
He was also quoted to have said that the party was ready to sacrifice the Senate presidency to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
In a swift reaction to the national chairman’s position, Frank described Oyegun’s position as ridiculous and a final nail in the coffin of the ruling party.
He said in a statement that “The recent interview granted by the chairman of the APC in some national dailies of Sunday, April 17 has again vindicated my position on the crisis rocking the party, which may finally put to rest the doubt that all is well within the APC.
“The chairman’s position on the current travails of the Senate president is a clear indication that the party under Chief Oyegun has spoken the minds of all those that were in doubt that the persecution of the Senate president is and may be politically motivated.
“Instead of allowing the court to take its course in finding the Senate president guilty, having utilised his fundamental rights as enshrined in our constitution on the legality of his trial at the tribunal, one would have wondered the hurry in Chief Oyegun’s assertions.’’
On Oyegun’s explanation of why he (Frank) is being prevented from acting as the party’s spokesman, he said, “Chief Oyegun’s assertion in the same interview where he admitted that I am unable to discharge my functions as the party’s spokesman because of various interest emphasizes my earlier claim that indeed the party is divided within itself. That the seat of the spokesman is zoned to the north central because of the vacuum created by Lai Mohammed is laughable as the party’s constitution itself is clear in the event of a vacuum created by the exit of a substantive officer.
“The lack of respect for the party’s constitution, as well as total disregard to the rule of law in the APC is the sole monster causing disharmony and disaffection amongst party faithful.’’
