All Progressives Congress, APC governorship candidate in Gombe State, Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya has petitioned the elections tribunal sitting in the state capital, Gombe, claiming that his party won the election and not Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as announced by Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Speaking at the registry of the tribunal, the APC candidate claimed said he had proofs to support his claims hence he had decided to go to the tribunal to seek redress with the aim of announcing him as the winner of the election.
“My mission here is to tender our claim and seek for redress from the tribunal because we have the belief, having perused and seen that APC won the election but was denied the election because some elements of the electoral commission connived, contrived and purported that APC did not win the election.
“So we brought proofs to the tribunal in order to prove and make claim to the mandate of the people of Gombe for the governor of Gombe state.
“We have brought proofs that INEC did not do justice to APC to have announced that PDP won the election,” he said.
Yahaya claimed he never conceded defeat to the PDP and that he was misunderstood when he acknowledged as a democrat that a contest was held and a victor announced as it were, not necessarily accepting the result.
According to him, “I never said I agree that they won. What I said was that as a democrat, I contested an election under the supervision of an electoral body and they, INEC, announced the winner of the election; that is all.’’
