Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Honourable Inuwa Garba has applauded the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki and Honourable Yakubu Dogara as president and speaker of the eighth Senate and House of Representatives respectively.
He said it was only those who were ignorant of the true meaning of democracy or what it entailed and those ignorant of the workings of the assemblies that would have reservations onthe process of their eventual emergence.
The outgoing speaker made his position known at his residence in Gombe shortly before the commissioning of his multimillion naira orphanage home by Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo.
He said what took place on Tuesday at the upper and lower legislative chambers indicated that democracy was getting more deeply rooted in the country.
He extolled NASS members for considering the feelings of the people they represent and thereby exerted their will on ensuring transparent election of their leadership as expected by the electorate, as against the biddings of some powers in the ruling party.
Garba commended President Buhari’s acceptance of the results of the NASS leadership elections and declaration of preparedness to work with them.
“This has impressed on true politicians that democracy is well seated and that President Muhammadu Buhari is prepared to succeed.
“With this, he (President Buhari) has assured Nigerians that he is a true democrat and prepared to be a politician, not when we used to see him as one with military mentality or military ideology,” said the speaker.
He called on leaders and members of the eighth assembly to be mindful of the confidence reposed in them and to add value to the trust Nigerians bestowed on them by discharging their responsibilities in the interest of all Nigerians.
