The Governor of Niger state, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has assented to the Niger State House of Assembly bill seeking stiffer punishment for rapists and people engaged in sex offences.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Israel A. Ebije in a statement said other bills passed into law and assented to are the laws that provide for the constitution of Sharia Courts in Niger state and the law to establish the Niger State livestock and fisheries institute.

The spokesman of the Niger state Governor intimated that the law seeking for stiffer punishment against rapists and sex offenders is necessary adding that it will serve as deterrent to perpetrators and accord succor to potential victims.
