Gov. Martin Elechi of Ebonyi has appointed Dr Onyekachi Eni as his Chief Press Secretary, and 15 others as permanent secretaries in the state civil service.

In his speech at the swearing-in ceremony, the governor reminded them that their position was political which meant that they would work according to the dictates of the government in power.

He said: “You should not discriminate against anybody along political lines, or deny anybody of his civic rights; you must be at the forefront of actualizing the objectives of the government in power.

“One of the cardinal points of my administration for the past eight years is civil service reform which was necessitated by the depreciation in qualitative service delivery.’’

Elechi said the government applied the principle of territorial spread in making the appointments considering the high level manpower in the state civil service.

He urged the new appointees to be dedicated to their duties, warning that inactivity or indolence would not be tolerated in the service.

Mr Edwin Igbele the state Accountant General, who responded on behalf of others, thanked the governor for finding them worthy of the appointment.

He promised that they would justify the confidence reposed in them.

“We will discharge our functions with the guidance of laid down governmental regulations and contribute meaningfully to the overall development of the civil service and the state in general,” he said.
