The lead counsel to Governor Udom Emmanuel at the Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja, Chief Offiong Offiong (SAN) has expressed confidence that the governor and the People Democratic Party (PDP) would emerge victorious when judgment is delivered.
Speaking with journalists yesterday Offiong said that PDP who won the 2015 governorship election carried out enormous campaigns to project its candidate, thus making the governor duly elected by the people of Akwa Ibom State.
He explained that so far, Emmanuel and the PDP have paraded 23 witnesses who have testified under oath that there was election in the state and that both the card reader and incidence forms were used for accreditation assuring that the quality of witnesses on record so far will coast PDP to Victory.
He also added that INEC, which brought the incident forms used during the election has put to rest the controversy about the use and non use of the Smart Card Reader.
“I commend INEC for being creative enough to realize that, in our environment where technology not withstanding all the high-technicians, has not worked with the manner which it was supposed to work, they had a plan B, which was the incident forms to be given to eligible voters whose Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) are legitimate but their finger prints could not be authenticated by the card reader,” he said.
