Plateau state governor Simon Lalong, yesterday swore in the Management committee chairman of Jos East local government Dr. Samuel Pate.
Speaking at the occasion which took place at the government house little Rayfield yesterday , Lalong said Dr Pate having satisfied the requirement of community acceptability and inclusive representation in line with the change mantra of the Rescue Administration in the State, was presented to the Plateau State House of Assembly and had his appointment confirmed by the resolution of the House of Assembly.
In his words “Our Rescue Administration is mindful of the limited time at her disposal as against the great expectation of the people of Plateau State “
“. You are therefore coming in at a very critical period for immediate service delivery to the people of Jos East in particular and the State in general “”
. I expect therefore that you must hit the ground running, with practical solutions to close up the yawning gap of development and socio-economic emancipation of the citizenry “.
“ It will be recalled that during the Swearing-in ceremony of the late Management Committee Chairman of Jos East which was combined with that of the Permanent Secretary, I did also reiterated the need for quick fixes, as we deliver on our promise of good governance and commitment to meeting the social welfare needs of our people “. Your responsibility is to reinforce this commitment and to ensure that all components of our Five Policy Thrust are given effect within the mandate of your office. I am sure by now, you would have fully familiarize yourself with this policy directions, and is prepared to drive the process of its realization “.
“Let me quickly remind you that with your Oath of Office, the opportunity to inscribe your name in gold on the honour list of meritorious service has been given to you. You must strive to be just, fair and to deal equitably with all manner of persons “.
Lalong also said “In this season of the conscious campaign for probity and accountability, you must be incorruptible and strive to maintain the highest level of discipline and work ethics, anchored on professionalism, discipline and responsible management of resources, so that you can better the lot of our people as part of your value addition to good governance “.
“I therefore make this passionate appeal for you to see this appointment as a call to service; you must make a difference in the life of your people, despite the challenges of the dwindling economic fortunes confronting us “
“. I am confident that your acceptance of this leadership with a clear understanding of the magnitude of the responsibilities that come with it, is a clear manifestation of your willingness to explore new alternatives, to our conventional dependence on statutory resources as we seek to deliver on our mandate “.
The governor also used the opportunity to appreciate the cooperation we have received from the people of Jos East and to particularly thank the community leadership for their peace building efforts in the Local Government Area as well as their constant understanding with Government, on matters of restructuring of the Local Government leadership “
“ I further call on all the people of Jos East, to cooperate with the new Chairman and his team, as they make conscious and concerted efforts to move Jos East Local Government to greater height “.
It could be recalled that Dr. Hosea Azi the immediate past Management Committee Chairman of Jos East Local Government passed on to glory in the course of duty, in an unfortunate fatal motor accident at Garaku, Nasarawa State late last year.
