Henceforth, any quack caught practicing as a doctor in any part of Ondo state will be arrested and prosecuted immediately.
To this end, the state government has mandated its monitoring agents to continue to beam their searchlights on every part of the state.
Director of Hospital Management Services at the state Ministry of Health, Dr Ola Oba-Ado, who dropped the hint with newsmen at the weekend advised patents to desist from patronizing quacks so as not to endanger their lives.
While giving the breakdown on the disadvantages of patronizing quack doctors, Oba-Ado said that their activities had resulted in untimely deaths of many innocent citizens in the past.
Owing to the fact that they are not trained to do the job, he noted, no quack doctor can diagnose properly or give effective and efficient treatment.
According to him, government can no longer fold its hands while their heinous and retrogressive activities continue to retard the realization of its set objectives and goals in the vital sector.
He said, ‘’In quackery, it is neither a patient is over-treated or under-treated, because the practitioners have no knowledge of what they are doing.
“In most cases, their activities result to death or worsen the health condition of their unsuspecting patients.”
Oba-Ado affirmed that the present government has performed excellently in the health sector, by ensuring that every ward in the state has basic health centre, where people can receive treatment.
He disclosed that each local government also has a General Hospital and Comprehensive Health Centre where people can access health care.
He added that the state government also put in place the Mother and Child Hospitals, Trauma and Kidney Centres among others for tertiary care, explaining that the facilities were well equipped.
Aside the above, he said private hospitals are spread across the state, saying that there is no reason why a patient should consult any quack doctor.
“There is no reason to patronize quack doctors who will only
endanger your life when standard hospitals are spread across the state,” he said.
He therefore warned quack doctors to venture into other businesses, adding that anybody caught in the act will face the wrath of the law.
