Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano yesterday applauded the newly inaugurated Isiagu Youth Association, IYA, Awka South local government area for taking a bold decision to assist the security agents police their community by flushing out all drug addicts, criminals and fraudulent people in their community.
Obiano made the commendation while inaugurating the Isiagu Youth Association (IYA), led by Chief Nelson C. Okolo , Ezeomeogo Isiagu/Ochiagha Awka na South-Africa.
The 11-man Isiagu Youth Association executive elected are; Chief Nelson Okolo (President); Nwabueze Nwokoye (Vice President); Uche Ozumba (Secretary); Obinna Okoli (Assistant Secretary); Crescent Chibuife (Financial Secretary); and Chuma Anagor (Treasurer).
The rest are Chekwube Okoli (PRO); Uchenna Nwoye (Provost); Ekene Odogwu (Welfare Officer 1); Chiemelie Okoye (Welfare Officer 2); and Shedrack Okoli (Ex-Officio).
Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Ogbuefi Tony Nnachetta, represented by Director of Youth Development in his ministry, Chief Greg Onugbolu (JP), insisted that should the youths be docile over crime or applaud evil, the future would be bleak but with such daring move there is hope for a brighter future in Isiagu community and Anambra State at large.
He emphasized that if Isiagu youths led by Okolo succeed in discouraging idleness, drug abuse, social vices, crime and violence among the youths, then youths shall begin to actively participate in the development and growth of their community.
In his address, the President, Isiagu Youth Association (IYA), Mr. Nelson Chike Okolo, reiterated that his leadership would fight against impunity and illegality of all sorts among youths in order to restore sanity and order in the community for progress and development.
The Isiagu Youth Association President announced that his leadership would build 3 bus stop in the community at the cost of N900,000.00ā€“Checking point, Iruomam Village junction and Central School to protect people from rain and harsh weather while waiting to onboard a bus or bike; they hoped to commission it this September, 2015.
