Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano has said that transformation that will positively impact the lives of the people, will remain an elusive dream without the key contributions of the state legislature.
Governor Obiano stated this during the opening ceremony of a 2-day induction workshop organized for members elect of the State House of Assembly in Awka.
The workshop with the theme,” effectiveness in legislation” which was aimed to acquaint the newly-elected lawmakers on their constitutional and statutory legislative obligations, was facilitated by the coordinator, State Economic Think Thank, Mr. Mike Atasie.
Declaring the workshop open, Governor Obiano said a deeper understanding of the vision and workings of his government is critical for the legislators to effectively contribute to the growth of the state.
Governor said his administration on assumption of office had clearly defined its agenda and classified them into the four key development pillars and the enablers on the other hand, targeted to usher in aggressive development across the various sectors.
According to him, the four development pillars have for the past one year attracted both indigenous and foreign investors with investments aggregated to be worth over 2.4 billion US dollars and which has the potential to create abundant wealth and employment opportunities as well as grow the Gross Domestic Product of the state.
The Governor noted that as part of measures to intensify the effectiveness of government interventions, his administration is adopting a more proactive approach in the partnership with the mission in the areas of health, where the funds given them will be consistently monitored to ensure that they are prudently managed.
While commending the outgoing 5th Assembly for providing the legislative framework that enabled the realization of his administration’s onslaught against criminals in the state, the Governor urged the newly elected legislators to undertake their statutory legislative functions with the fear of God and total commitment to the welfare of the people.
