Imo Sate Governor, Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha has demonstrated his support for the establishment of a university in Orlu area of the state by the Catholic Diocese of Orlu with the donation of land and cash to ensure the realisation of the project.
Governor Okorocha, who made this known while speaking during his thanksgiving service at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of Orlu Catholic Diocese, directed that the land and all the necessary authorization papers for the university be given to the leadership of the Diocese for the commencement of the university project without delay.
The governor and his political associates who attended the historic event made donations worth over N145million for the commencement of the process for the university and for the renovation of the cathedral.
Okorocha donated N100million on behalf of the state government out of the N145milliion, while Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, Chief Chidi Idiga (JAFAC), and Chief Jerry Chukwueke donated N5million, and N4million respectively.
The well-attended thanksgiving service had more than three hundred Catholic and non Catholic clergymen from Orlu Diocese and across the state in attendance.
In his speech at the service, Governor Okorocha said the state government would continue to invest heavily in education, explaining that the free education programme of the government would remain a prime project to the government.
He added that the Marine University under construction in Ossemotor in Oguta LGA, the European University in Ideato and the one under construction at Ngor Okpala/Mbaise would be the envy of many when they all take off.
He reiterated that his second tenure would be better than his first term, adding that the rural roads projects would be completed, while the free education from primary, secondary to university will remain.
