Imo State Governor and chairman, All Progressives Congress, APC Governors’ Forum, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has commiserated with the Awolowo family over the death of their matriarch, Chief Mrs. Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo.
In a statement issued yesterday in Owerri by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sam Onwuemeodo, the governor described the late centenarian as a representative of an era, describing her death as historic and an end of that era.
He said, “Chief Mrs. Awolowo had lived life that was action – oriented, and several years after the husband, Chief Obafemi Awolowo had died, she kept the flag flying by giving her whole life to the service of God and humanity.”
Governor Okorocha noted that, the spontaneous reactions of Nigerians loaded with goodwill over her transition could only explain the fact that she had lived a fulfilled and exemplary life.
He challenged the younger ones to borrow a leaf from the lifestyle of the late matriarch and what she believed in and stood for and prayed for eternal repose of the soul of HID.
Meanwhile, Governor Okorocha has announced the postponement of his 53rd birthday celebrations earlier slated for this week to sometime next month.
