Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Dave Umahi, has assented the 2015 appropriation bill of N75.8 billion into law.
The governor, while performing the ceremony on Tuesday at Government House, Abakaliki thanked the members of the state House of Assembly for their unrelentless effort and cooperation in ensuring the speedy passage of the bill.
Umahi recalled that the strained relationship between the former administration of Governor Martin Elechi and the 4th session of the House botched the passage of the budget and on assumption of office realized the need to withdraw and represent the budget since the indices used in preparing the budget by the former governor was no longer tenable.
He noted that the budget of N80 billion estimate on withdrawal was accessed, re-touched and represented a total estimate of N75.8 billion with 11 percent reduction to the House but promised not to go below the new estimate assented into law.
The governor maintained that, while other states of the federation were crying of hardship, his administration was only being challenged by the present economic realities which it would overcome, expressing the readiness of his government to turn the economic fortune of the state within two years.
Umahi promised to swing into action with his team to ensure that those things as captured in the budget were done to improve the development of the state and welfare of its citizenry.
Earlier, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Francis Nwifuru told the governor that the speedy passage of the appropriation bill was informed by the House’s decision to march its speed with the fast moving Executive arm of the state.
