Zamfara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari has charged the newly sworn-in 14 elected local government chairmen in the state to be God fearing and give priority to transparency and accountability in the discharge of their primary assignment.
All the new council bosses were elected under the platform of All Progressive Congress, APC in the just concluded local government election held on Saturday, January 2 across the state.
Governor Yari, while inaugurating the chairmen, said all the 774 local government areas in the country were created by law to move government closer to the people and therefore urged them to provide basic amenities for the people who voted them into power.
He also enjoined the newly elected chairmen to embrace agribusiness in order to make their people become self-employed and improve their respective local councils.
Similarly, he charged them to work closely with the state government in all their policy making so as to develop the state to highest level in the near future, stressing that, his administration would collaborate with them for its economic development.
The governor, however, warned them against any form of mismanagement of their respective local councils’ funds during their three years stewardship in office, saying his administration would not condone such act of indiscipline.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, the chairman of Bakura Local Council, Hon. Dankande Gamji promised that they would work closely and harmoniously with the state government in transforming the state, particularly the rural areas during their tenure of office.
