Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Governor Abdulaziz Yari has congratulated the newly elected president of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Mr. Waheed Odusile, tasking him on professionalism and welfare of journalists.
Yari in a statement in Abuja yesterday by the NGF Media Office, said the election of Odusile was a testimony that journalists in the country were in sync with the change agenda of the present administration.
The chairman, who is the Governor of Zamafara State, stressed that the new president must walk the talk and justify the confidence that journalists have reposed in him.
According to the NGF chair, journalism is a worthy profession that requires proper observance of the ethics, pledging that the forum would work closely with the new leadership to improve on the practice of the profession in the country. The governor decried the rising incidence offake journalism and urged the new leadership to address the issue with theattention it deserves.
He commended the union for the orderly and peaceful process that produced the new leadership, adding that no less was expected of the NUJ.
In a related development, the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Governor Olusegun Mimiko has congratulated Odusile on his emergence as the new president of the NUJ.
He charged Odusile to see his election as a call to duty and to work for all journalists and strengthen the bonds of professionalism. Mimiko urged the new president to work towards correcting unprofessional reporting by some sections of the media in order to give equal access to all stakeholders.
