Governors of the 36 states of the federation are to meet with the United Nations Secretary General, Mr. Ban K-Moon to discuss implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs; the successor programme to the Millennium Development Goals, MDGs.
According to a communiqué issued at the end of a meeting of the Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, the governors are expected to discuss with the UN Scribe the envisaged role of State Governors as critical stakeholders in implementation of the SDGs.
The meeting scheduled for August 23 is a follow-up to May 2011 meeting the UN Scribe had with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.
The communiqué signed by the NGF chairman, Governor Abdul’aziz Yari, said the forum also received presentation made by the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited, NDPHC on the operations of the National Integrated Power Project and resolved to appeal for a more comprehensive power sector policy and strategy, with a view to achieving a holistic solution to the power situation in the country.
