Former Head of State,
General Yakubu Gowon, rtd,
has called on all Nigerians to
continue to work and pray for
the unity of the country.
Gowon said it is unfortunate
that the country is facing series
of crisis, but pointed out that
the unity and progress of the
country lies on every citizen.
He told journalists in
Akure, the Ondo State capital,
yesterday, that “it is unfortunate
that the country is facing many
crisis nowadays, killings in the
north, militancy in the south
and crisis everywhere, but I
believe that with prayers, it
shall be well with the country.
“I read in one of the
newspapers that the name
of Nigeria is no more on the
list of countries in economic
recession it shows that things
are getting better, so we
should not stop praying for the
Gowon, who is a patron of
the Bible Society of Nigeria,
led members of the association
to pay a courtesy visit on
Governor Rotimi Akeredolu
and expressed optimism that
situation of the country, would
change for the better.
National President of the
BSN, Dr. Aron Nuhu, solicited for the support of the
Ondo State Government,
saying the association had
translated the bible into 24
Nigerian languages and is
making efforts to translate it
to more local languages.
In his response, Governor
Akeredolu lauded the
former head of state for
ensuring oneness of the
country and also promised
to support the association.
