The police on Thursday arraigned a 35-year-old man, Monday Daniel in a Wuse Zone 2 Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, charged with cheating and for defrauding a woman of N100,000.

Daniel, who resides at Kachigoro, Abuja, was alleged to have collected N100,000 from the complainant to help her perfect the bail of her brother detained in police custody.

The defendant was arraigned on a two count-charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The prosecutor, Magret Nwosu, told the court that Patricia Sani of Kachigoro, Abuja, reported the matter at Apo Police Station, Abuja,
on April. 6.

Nwosu said that the complainant gave the defendant N100,000 to perfect her brother’s bail who was in detention at Apo Police Station.

She added that Daniel neither perfected the bail, nor returned the money to the complainant, an offence which contravened the provisions of sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty and the Senior Magistrate, Nuhu Tukur, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with a reasonable surety in like sum.

Tukur ordered that the surety must have fixed address within the jurisdiction of the court as he adjourned the matter until
May 4 for hearing. (NAN)
