The Civil Society Coalition for Good Governance, CSCGG, has called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC to invoke its disciplinary processes against any member that conducts him or herself in any manner that violates party discipline or undermines the collective interest of the party.
The group in a press briefing in Lagos, said the party members should be reminded that it was the party’s manifesto and progamme of change that endeared Nigerians to support the party which earned it the massive votes of the people who have been clamouring for change.
“We call on all organs and members of the party to join hands with the party leadership and work assiduously to ensure that the differences among its fold are resolved within the shortest period in the overall interest of the party and the progress and development of the nation.
“The crisis generated by the controversial elections of Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara as Senate President and Speaker respectively is partly responsible for the slow pace of affairs in the newly elected government led by President Mohammed Buhari. It is apparent that the delay in sending the list of ministerial nominees to the National Assembly for confirmation is due to the crisis which is no doubt destabilizing the ruling party machinery.
“There is need for political parties to check their members from pursuing selfish interest at the expense of their party success like what Saraki and Dogara did, which created bad blood within the ruling party and constitute a clog on the wheels of democratic progress.”
CSCGG stressed that though Buhari and the party leadership have accepted the outcome of the NASS election and ready to work with the leadership in the national interest, hence party members need to obey party discipline, show loyalty to their party and work towards the party’s programme in line with its manifesto in the interest of overall good governance and national development.
