A Non Governmental Organisation, NGO, Osun Positive Force, OPF, has thrown its weight behind the candidacy of the immediate past Commissioner for Culture and Home Affairs in Osun State, Prince Sikiru Ayedun Adetona for the stool of Ooni of Ife in accordance with the 1980 Chieftaincy Declaration Law of the state.
In a statement issued in Osogbo, the media director of the group, Mr. Yinka Diamond, said among those seeking for the revered throne, Adetona has the best credentials and capacity to lead the ancient city to an enviable status.
Adetona who had all his educational qualifications in Ile-Ife, except professional courses obtained overseas, appears to be most favoured amongst youths and elders of the town.
Prince Adetona is of the Giesi ruling house, which Kingmakers have tipped to produce the next Ooni.
His work experience spans across both the private and public circles, the most recent being Commissioner for Home Affairs, Culture and Tourism with the Osun State government between 2011 and 2013, where he attracted several developmental projects to Ile-Ife.
According to Yinka Diamond, the organisation believes that Prince Ayedun Adetona is one person amongst those aspiring for the throne that can provide
the needed leadership for the ancient city and maintain its respect amidst the traditional enclaves.
“OPF has sat down and taken assessment of the happenings since the demise of the Late Ooni and concluded that Ile-Ife needs a king that is acceptable to all. In view of that, Prince Adetona is the only one among other contestants that can be
entrusted with the throne and we strongly assured Ife Kingdom that they would benefit immensely from his wealth of experience.
“This is the basic reason why OPF feels that Prince Adetona, if given the chance and crown as the next Ooni by the Kingmakers, will be able to rule Ile-Ife with the fear of God,” the statement read.
The group thanked the kingmakers for narrowing down the number of ruling houses to Giesi, to present a right and qualified candidate for the throne.
OPF however asks for divine guidance for the sixteen Kingmakers and the Council of Chiefs, while praying for sustenance of peace in the town and Osun State in general.
